Jorge Cadena
Programmer
Jorge Cadena is a Colombian filmmaker based in Switzerland. Born in Barranquilla. He studied photography in Buenos Aires before completing his BA in Cinema at HEAD–Geneva in 2016 with El cuento de Antonia, which won the Tiger Award at the Rotterdam Film Festival.

In 2018, he finished his MA at ECAL/HEAD with Soeurs Jarariju, awarded a Special Mention at the Berlinale. He was selected for EFP Future Frames in Karlovy Vary (2019), the TIFF Filmmaker Lab in Toronto (2020), and Berlinale Talents (2021).
His short film Flores del otro patio (2022) was nominated for the European Film Awards and the Colombian National Film Awards (Premios Macondo), and received the Best Swiss Short Film Award at Kurzfilmtage Winterthur, the Grand Prix at Encounters Bristol, and the Special Jury Award at SXSW. He is currently developing his first feature film.
Alongside his filmmaking practice, Jorge has been an active contributor to international film culture. Since 2020, he has served as co-programmer of FILMAR en América Latina in Geneva, where he brings his expertise in Latin American cinema to the festival’s curatorial and programming vision. From 2017 to 2019, he was mentor of the Youth Jury / OPERA PRIMA Award at FILMAR, working with emerging viewers and fostering critical engagement with contemporary cinema.
He has also participated as a jury member at several international film festivals, including Visions du Réel, FILMFEST DRESDEN International Short Film Festival, FICICA – Cine a la Calle (Barranquilla), Psarokokalo International Short Film Festival, among others.
